Next Generation
Women and girls in poverty face obstacles in every area of their life that keep them from realizing their full potential.
Next Gen is connecting and mobilizing high school and college aged students throughout the United States to respond to the needs of women and girls living in resource poor countries by raising awareness and funds to empower girls and women.
Why It Matters
Every day, an estimated 830 women die from preventable causes associated with pregnancy and childbirth. And 7,000 newborns die every day mostly from birth-related complications. (World Health Organization, UNICEF)
The global water crisis disproportionately impacts women and girls who spend an estimated 200 million hours hauling water every day - time that they could be spending going to school, (UNICEF)
In the least developed countries, 41% of girls under 18 are already married. And 200 million girls and women have experienced female genital mutilation. Right now, 5 million girls younger than 15 are at risk. (UNICEF, World Health Organization)
Nearly 1 billion women do not have access to financial services. And 80% of labor on smallholder farms is done by women. (World Bank, World Food Program)
Two thirds of the world’s 750 million adults without literacy skills are women. (UNESCO)
How We Are Responding
By joining the Next Gen movement we become the answer to changing the gross injustice against basic human rights women and girls experience.
This year, inspirational and educational events are scheduled in Aspen, Snowmass Village and New York City to raise resources for the Next Gen Fund. The money raised will fund well projects so that clean water is close to home — freeing up time for millions of girls and women to reach their full potential—to pursue an education, learn a trade, care for themselves and their families better, or start a business.
Join the Next Gen movement and learn more about our future events by joining our Next Gen email list. We look forward to hearing from you!
